His Role
Dr. AZA Allsop is a psychiatrist, neuroscientist, and artist, serving as Head of Research at Beckley Retreats. He leads research and oversees the design of research study applications within retreat settings, drawing on his expertise in clinical psychiatry, psychedelic science and music to advance Beckley’s mission.
His Story
AZA’s journey bridges science and the arts. He studied Biology, Jazz, and Philosophy at North Carolina Central University before earning his MD and PhD in Neuroscience from the Harvard-MIT program. He was also an Emerson Scholar at Berklee College of Music. He completed his psychiatry training at Yale, with certification in psychedelic-assisted therapy and research.
AZA’s work explores how music, mindfulness, and psychedelics influence social behavior. At Beckley, he brings together his passions for neuroscience, healing, and creative expression to help design transformative, evidence-based experiences that support personal and communal wellbeing.
