Who comes
Not in crisis. At a crossroads.
Founders, executives, partners, physicians, attorneys, former consultants and bankers, most in their 40s through 70s. People who have won the game as it was set up, and want a real reset rather than more of the same.
The reasons they give are consistent: a career or identity transition, a recent exit, divorce or loss, high-functioning anxiety, running on autopilot, sleeping badly, a mind that will not switch off. What they share is a considered approach, and a preference for structure and science over anything that asks them to take it on faith.
Many have done years of good work in therapy and come because they want something experiential rather than another conversation. Beckley is not therapy and not a replacement for it; many guests bring what came up on retreat back into that work, and it tends to deepen it.

Why this format
Structure is the point.
Screened, every time
Every applicant has a suitability call with our team. It is not optional: it is where we go through your history together, answer your questions and make sure the program is a fit, for you and for the group you will sit with. When the answer is no, we say so plainly.
Held by an experienced team
Our teams include practitioners with backgrounds as psychotherapists, psychologists and physicians. On retreat they are not acting in their licensed capacity, because Beckley does not provide medical treatment, but that training is in the room with you. In Jamaica a nurse is on site during every session with a doctor on call.
Science, not faith
Beckley grew out of the Beckley Foundation's 25 years of psilocybin research with Imperial College London and Johns Hopkins. In each session every guest receives a custom amount within a predefined range, around what you would see in a clinical trial in the US. This is not medical treatment. You will not be asked to believe anything except your own experience.
Built around a working life
Four weeks of preparation and six weeks of integration, online and at your own pace, one to two hours a week. One weekly group call at a set time. Everything else fits around your schedule, and if you join late we catch you up.
Discreet
Small groups, private rooms at every venue, confidential applications, and a team that has hosted people whose names you would know without ever saying so.
Legal, and only where legal
Jamaica for psilocybin mushrooms, the Netherlands for truffles. Never the United States.
Will I lose control? The question almost every guest asks first. The structure exists for it: a custom amount within a predefined range, one room with your group and the full team, at least one facilitator for every four guests, and the freedom to drink water, step outside, ask for support or ask to be left alone at any point. A session lasts around six hours and cannot be switched off, but it can be held. Guests who arrive most worried about control are often the ones who say afterwards that letting go inside a safe structure was the point.

Timing
When it is the right time, and when it is not yet.
A crossroads is exactly when most people come: after an exit, a sabbatical after a decade of leading, a divorce, a loss, a health scare. A big transition often lowers the guard enough to do real work. Acute crisis is different. If you are in the middle of something you cannot yet stand outside of, the answer may be not yet, and we will say so. Some guests approve now and travel when the ground has settled. Approval never commits you to attend.
The practical shape
Apply, about seven minutes. A suitability call within a few days. Choose your retreat after approval, usually about eight weeks out. Four weeks of preparation online. Four or five nights away plus travel. Six weeks of integration online. Then an alumni community that stays open.
Questions professionals ask
Straight answers.
Can I keep working during preparation and integration?
Yes, and nearly everyone does. Both are online and at your own pace, one to two hours a week, from wherever you are. The one fixed commitment is a weekly group call at a set time, listed on each retreat's page before you commit. The practices live in the Beckley app, so a long-haul flight or a late evening counts.
Will anyone know I came?
Your application and everything you tell us on the suitability call are confidential and used only to make sure the program is a fit. Groups are small, up to 18, and what is shared in the room stays there. We never publish a guest's name, photo or story without written consent. Private rooms are available at every venue, and most guests choose one. If discretion matters for professional reasons, say so on the application.
I have never done anything like this. Is that a problem?
No. Guests range from people with no experience of psilocybin to people who work in the field. Everything is guided and nothing assumes prior experience. For first-time guests we recommend the five-night Signature Program, because the longer retreat carries the most preparation and support.
I take medication. Can I still come?
Some medications, including SSRIs and SNRIs, may mean the program is not the right fit, or not yet. Apply anyway and tell us. The suitability call is where we work that out together, alongside your prescriber. Who the program is not right for.
How far ahead do people book, and how much time do I need to take off?
Most guests book about eight weeks ahead, which gives the full four weeks of preparation. The retreat itself is four or five nights plus travel days. Some decide within days of their call and join a cohort that has already started; we catch late joiners up, right up to seven days before the retreat begins.
Can we come as a leadership team?
Yes. Private programs run for groups of 1 to 18 in either country, designed around the group's goals and dates. Every participant is still screened individually. Write to welcome@beckleyretreats.com, or book a call.
