Beckley Retreats · Our veterans community

You served together.
You can reconnect
together.

A place to be understood. Space to rediscover what matters. A community to walk beside you.

Our commitment to veterans
A personal commitment

For those who have served.
For all that comes next.

Supporting veterans is deeply personal at Beckley Retreats. Our co-founder, Neil Markey, is a former U.S. Army Ranger Captain who served in Iraq and Afghanistan.

His experience informs our commitment to creating spaces where veterans can feel understood, supported, and open to new possibilities. Through philanthropy, research, and sponsored access, we are helping more veterans take that next step.

The power of the group

A familiar bond.
A different kind
of journey.

Veterans train together, serve together, and learn to depend on one another. For many, some of their hardest experiences were shared with those same teams.

We believe that connection can become a powerful source of support. In a thoughtfully held group, there can be less to explain. Room to speak honestly, listen deeply, and feel understood.

There is something meaningful about discovering that you do not have to do this work alone.

A shared experience

Coming back together.
Moving forward.

During one Beckley program, a group of veterans who had served together in an Army engineer company joined us for a retreat.

Seeing former teammates come together in a setting devoted to reflection, care, and reconnection was extraordinary. They brought a shared history, an understanding of one another, and the willingness to explore something new together.

They had already shared so much. This was an opportunity to share a different experience.

A moment that stayed with us

He knew what compassion meant.
That evening, he remembered
what it felt like.

At dinner, one veteran shared that he had always understood the definition of compassion. But he could not remember feeling it until that moment.

Experiences like his remind us why we create these spaces: to make room for connection, tenderness, and parts of ourselves that may have felt distant for a long time.

More than a moment.
Support for the journey.

For veterans who are suitable for participation, our programs offer space to reflect, reconnect, and explore personal growth with experienced support.

01 / BEFORE

Prepare with intention.

Individual screening and guided preparation help participants consider their intentions, ask questions, and begin building trust before the retreat.

02 / TOGETHER

Experience in community.

Supported psilocybin experiences in legal settings, alongside reflection and wellbeing practices, create space for exploration and connection.

03 / BEYOND

Bring it into life.

Integration supports participants as they make sense of their experiences and explore how to carry insights into daily life and relationships.

Experience meets inquiry

Personal stories.
Scientific curiosity.

We supported research with Heroic Hearts Project and researchers at Imperial College London examining outcomes among veterans with a reported history of traumatic brain injury who attended our psilocybin retreats in Jamaica.

The 2025 observational study reported improvements in measures including depression, anxiety, quality of life, and reintegration difficulties. These early findings encourage further research.

This small study had no control group. It cannot establish that psilocybin caused the improvements or separate its effects from the wider retreat experience. Larger controlled studies are needed.

Beckley Retreats programs focus on personal growth and wellbeing and are not medical treatment. Participation requires individual screening. Psychedelic experiences carry risks, and outcomes vary. Individual stories do not predict another person’s experience.
