About this conversation
Neil Markey hosts Ben Sheinwald and Kosu Boudreau for a recorded Q&A about questions therapists and mental health practitioners may hear about psilocybin retreats. The conversation covers the distinction between a wellbeing retreat and a clinical setting, the role of preparation and integration, and how the team considers suitability.
A central theme is the support around the retreat. Ben describes integration as a practical process of considering what an experience means and what a guest wants to bring into everyday life. Kosu discusses the value of an existing therapeutic relationship. The speakers describe a retreat as one part of a wider support system.

Neil Markey on the provider's role
It's important to note, Beckley Retreats is a wellness provider. We're not a healthcare provider.
Ben Sheinwald on integration
What's changing, and also what is it that you want to be doing? What do you take into integration? What does it mean? What do I take into my life? What is it that I want to weave into my life, weave into my being from the experience?
Ben Sheinwald on screening
A tremendous amount goes on behind the scenes to discuss this if we're at all unsure. If we're at all on the fence, the person will go for a second screening; there'll be multiple people discussing it. So we really, really take this very seriously.
Questions this replay answers
Is a Beckley retreat a clinical service?
No. Beckley Retreats provides wellbeing programs. The speakers explicitly distinguish the retreat setting from healthcare. The About Beckley page explains the organization's role, and the research hub describes the evidence and its limitations.
What does integration involve?
In this conversation, integration means making sense of the experience and considering how insights relate to everyday choices and practices. Beckley's program includes six weeks of integration after the retreat. See the full program structure for current details.
How is suitability considered?
Screening considers the individual and whether the program and group setting are appropriate. The replay is an introduction to that process, not a personal eligibility decision. Read who should not attend and how screening works.
