How we make and review our posts.

Who writes for Beckley, who reviews, what we cite, what we will not claim, and how to tell us when we get something wrong.

Editorial standards

Written to be checked.

Beckley Retreats publishes about psilocybin because people deciding whether a retreat is right for them deserve plain, sourced answers. We have a commercial interest in that decision, so we hold the writing to rules you can check.

This page sets out who writes, who reviews, what we cite, what we will not say, and how corrections work. It applies to every post on the blog, every program page and the research hub. It was first published in October 2026 and is revised when the process changes.

  • Namedevery post carries a named writer with a bio you can read
  • Reviewedhealth and safety posts carry a named expert reviewer
  • Sourcedclaims about research link to the study, not to a summary of it
  • Correctederrors are fixed on the page and noted, not quietly

Who writes

Writers write. Experts review.

The editorial team

Most posts are written by professional health and science writers on the Beckley editorial team. Their job is to read the research and the regulations and explain them clearly. They are not psilocybin researchers or clinicians, and their bios say what they are. Where a post is written by a Beckley facilitator or team member, the byline says so.

What a byline means

The named writer researched and wrote the post and stands behind its accuracy. Posts credited to "Admin" are older posts from before this policy and are being reassigned to named authors.

Expert review

Posts that touch health, safety, medications, dosing, legality or who should not take part are reviewed before publishing by a named reviewer with relevant training. The reviewer's name and credentials appear on the post. Our principal reviewer is Sam Gandy, PhD, an ecologist and psychedelic researcher who was scientific assistant to the director of the Beckley Foundation. Facilitators with clinical backgrounds review posts about the retreat itself.

What review is not

Review is a check on accuracy and framing. It is not medical advice to you, and nothing on this site is a substitute for a conversation with your own clinician. Every applicant has a suitability call with our team before acceptance.

Sources

Primary sources, linked.

When we describe research, we link to the peer-reviewed paper, the registered trial or the regulator's own document, not to a news story about it. Where a finding comes from a single small study we say so. Where the evidence is mixed we say that too. Posts carry a Sources section listing what they rely on.

Numbers about Beckley itself, such as guest counts, survey results, prices, ratios and screening outcomes, come from our own records and are stated with their basis. The survey figures on this site are from post-program surveys of Beckley guests and are not independently audited.

What we will not claim

That psilocybin, or a retreat, treats or cures any condition. Beckley does not provide medical treatment, does not diagnose, and does not guarantee outcomes.

That a guest experience is typical. Quotes are real and used with written consent; they are one person's account.

That anything is safe without qualification. Psilocybin carries real risks, screening reduces them, and some people should not take part.

Corrections and updates

Tell us, and we fix it.

If you find an error, email welcome@beckleyretreats.com with the page address and the problem. Factual errors are corrected on the page as soon as they are confirmed, and material corrections are noted at the foot of the post. We do not remove criticism we disagree with; we answer it.

Posts are revisited when the law, the research or the program changes. Legal status pages for the United States and the UK are checked each quarter. A date on a post shows when it was last changed, which may be a small edit; the reviewer line shows when it was last reviewed.

Disclosure

Beckley Retreats is a public benefit corporation that sells retreat programs. We say so on every post, and our writers are paid by us. Independent accounts of the program by journalists who attended as guests are linked from Why Beckley, and we point readers to them before our own descriptions.
