What happens on a psilocybin retreat, day by day.

Five nights, two guided sessions, and the weeks on either side. Nothing hidden.

Start your application

Before you fly

The retreat starts four weeks before you arrive.

By the time you travel you know how to navigate a psilocybin session, you have set an intention, and you have met your lead facilitator.

Preparation is online and at your own pace, one to two hours a week. There is a 1:1 intake call with a facilitator, group calls with the people you will spend the retreat with, and guided practices and resources in the Beckley app. There is one weekly group call at a set time; everything else fits around your schedule. Join late and we catch you up, right up to seven days before the retreat begins.

This page describes the five-night Signature Program. The 4-Night Program in the Netherlands has the same shape with one fewer day between the sessions.

  • 4 weeksof preparation, online, at your own pace
  • 5 nightson retreat, Jamaica or the Netherlands
  • 2 sessionsguided, on separate days, around six hours each
  • 6 weeksof integration after you return

On retreat

The days, one by one.

Day 1

Arrival

A private transfer from the airport: 45 minutes from Montego Bay in Jamaica, and from Amsterdam Schiphol in the Netherlands under an hour to De Hoorneboeg or longer to The Place To Be. You settle into your room, meet your group and the team, and open the retreat together in the evening. A digital detox is encouraged from here, though you keep access to your phone. An early night.

Day 2

Preparation on site

Morning meditation, breathwork and gentle movement. Time with a facilitator to go over your intention and how the session will run. Time in nature, unhurried meals, and a light dinner before an early night ahead of the first session.

Day 3

The first session

A quiet morning and a light breakfast. Then the group gathers in one room with the full team. In each session every guest receives a custom amount within a predefined range, around what you would see in a clinical trial in the US. This is not medical treatment. The session lasts around six hours. Music guides the arc. A facilitator is within reach the whole time. You can drink water, step outside, ask for support, or ask to be left alone, and nothing is asked of you except to notice your own experience. As it settles there is food, rest and, if you want it, a first conversation.

Day 4

The day after

Set aside to make sense of what came up: a group circle in the morning, 1:1 time with a facilitator, rest, time in nature, and practices you can take home. Sleep tends to come easily.

Day 5

The second session

The same shape as the first. Guests often go further the second time, with the first session behind them and the team and the room now familiar. Your amount stays within the same predefined range and is reviewed with you beforehand.

Day 6

Closing

A closing circle in the morning, then a private transfer to the airport. Integration begins the week after you return. Arriving a day early or staying a day after makes for a gentler transition, and we recommend it.

Will I lose control? This is the question almost everyone asks, and the honest answer is that the structure exists for it. The amount is strong but not unbounded. You are in one room with your group and the full team, with at least one facilitator for every four guests, usually one for every three. Guests who arrive most worried about control are often the ones who say afterwards that letting go inside a safe structure was the point.

Who is in the room

The team, and the care around it.

Our teams include practitioners with backgrounds as psychotherapists, psychologists and physicians. On retreat they are not acting in their licensed capacity, because Beckley does not provide medical treatment, but that training is in the room with you.

In Jamaica a nurse is on site during every session with a doctor on call. In the Netherlands, public emergency services are minutes away. Operations and venue staff are on site around the clock. Groups are up to 18 guests. The psilocybin is sourced from trusted suppliers: mushrooms in Jamaica, truffles in the Netherlands, because that is what is legal in each country.

How we focus on safety, in detail

The risks, plainly

Psilocybin is well tolerated by most people. Physical effects can include nausea, a headache or disorientation. The main psychological risk is a period of overwhelming distress during a session and, rarely, effects that last longer. The preparation weeks, the ratio in the room, the experience of the team and the on-site care exist for exactly these moments, and the following day is built for working through what came up. Who the program is not right for.

After you get home

Six weeks of integration, then an open door.

Integration starts the week after you return, online and at your own pace, one to two hours a week: six weeks of weekly group calls with your cohort, short daily practices in the Beckley app, and tools that turn the experience into habits that hold. Optional 1:1 coaching with a facilitator is available. Then the alumni community, which stays open. Most guests say the weeks after are where the change takes hold.

Before you apply

Questions people ask about the retreat itself.

Do I need any experience with psilocybin or meditation?

No. Our guests range from people with no experience of psilocybin to people who work in the field, and from first-time meditators to long-time practitioners. Everything is guided and nothing assumes prior experience. For first-time guests we recommend the five-night Signature Program, because the longer retreat carries the most preparation and support.

Can I bring my phone?

Yes. You keep access to your phone throughout. We encourage a digital detox for the retreat, because the days are quiet, structured and unhurried and they work best without a screen in them, but the choice stays with you.

What if something comes up in a session that I cannot handle?

The structure exists for exactly this. You are in one room with your group and the full team, with at least one facilitator for every four guests, usually one for every three. You can drink water, step outside, ask for support, or ask to be left alone, at any point. A session lasts around six hours and cannot be switched off, but it can be held, and that is what the team is there to do. The next day is set aside to make sense of what came up.

Is the retreat the same in Jamaica and the Netherlands?

The program is the same: the same preparation, the same two guided sessions on separate days, the same integration. Jamaica uses psilocybin mushrooms and the Netherlands uses psilocybin truffles, because that is what is legal in each country, and the 4-Night Program runs only in the Netherlands. How to choose between them.

What do I eat?

All meals and snacks are included and prepared on site. On session mornings breakfast is light, because psilocybin is taken on an empty stomach and the effects begin within about an hour. Tell us about allergies and preferences on the application.
